Elder CAndidates
Thank you to everyone that submitted nominations for new Elders to join the Elder Board. After prayer and consideration, Mei-Ling Miyake and Caleb Wong have accepted the invitation to serve as Elders, starting October 2025. We are now in the 30-day Comment Phase of the process. If you would like to provide comments or input on either of these candidates, please email elders@lighthousechristian.church.

I was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Seattle and Bellevue. I was raised in a Christian household and my family attended the Evangelical Chinese Church (ECC) in Seattle. It was at ECC that I came to know the Lord and was baptized in December 1979.
My faith walk – like any believer – has been a journey of experiencing God’s awesome grace and His sanctifying work. I left Seattle in 1983 and in the next 38 years lived in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago and the New York/New Jersey area. I studied computer science and business at MIT and did graduate studies in Economics at the University of Chicago. I had a 25-year career in NYC as a portfolio manager at OppenheimerFunds. Over the same 38 years, my faith walk came with calls to serve our Lord. It ranged from youth, college, and children’s Sunday school ministries, to being on worship teams, to roles as small group leader, adult Sunday school teacher, deacon, church plant leader, and elder. Since returning to Seattle in 2021, I have been active in local missions, serving as an ESL teacher and board member for the Seattle Gospel Center, a community ministry that outreaches to Chinese immigrants primarily in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. I have been married to Mary for 33 years. God has blessed us with two lovely grown children, Jonathan and Madeline. Jonathan and his wife, Esther, live in the Bay Area while Madeline resides in Cambridge, MA. We are thankful that the Lord has worked greatly in each of them as they are baptized believers and each is active at their local churches.
Mary and I started attending Lighthouse full-time in January 2022. We had visited a handful of churches in 2021 but we chose Lighthouse because of its ministry focus on Asian Americans. We have been blessed by being part of a very dynamic small group, in which I serve as one of the discussion leaders, and by engagements in other ministries. Even though I have returned “home”, my expectations of what God has for me remains unchanged. He is still full of grace and He continues to mold me to be His image bearer. It won’t end until the day He brings me to the FOREVER home where I will be made perfect.

Growing up in Los Angeles, my life changed at the age of 13 when I became a Christ-follower and learned of Jesus’ love for me and the gift of eternal life. Since then, my spiritual journey has included participation in small group Bible studies, Bible Study Fellowship, Sunday School teaching and mission trips.
My first exposure to missions was in 2002 when I joined team members from across the U.S. to prayer-walk through regions of Guizhou Province in southwest China while partnering with local missionaries. Over the years I have also had the honor of co-leading teams to Japan for VBS programs (2007 and 2008 in Yukosuka) and Cambodia, providing free medical clinics (2014, 2016 and 2019 in NW Cambodia).
Ironically, I met my husband, Sets, while serving on the Missions Board at Venice-Santa Monica Free Methodist Church in West L.A. We have 2 sons, Sam and Wesley. Since retiring from Lighthouse as Administrator two years ago, I have had a chance to reflect on God’s grace and the many ways He continues to use Lighthouse to be a blessing through its ministries and members. I’m excited to see how God will continue to work in the years to come.
Thank you for considering me as an Elder candidate. I look forward to faithfully serving and being obedient to His calling.
